{"id":119122,"date":"2026-02-05T17:39:53","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T22:39:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.citizen.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=119122"},"modified":"2026-02-05T17:39:53","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T22:39:53","slug":"trumprx-lets-big-pharma-off-the-hook","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.citizen.org\/news\/trumprx-lets-big-pharma-off-the-hook\/","title":{"rendered":"TrumpRx Lets Big Pharma Off the Hook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 This evening, President Trump is expected to announce the launch of TrumpRx \u2013 a direct-to-consumer website that he claims will lower prescription drug costs in the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Public Citizen Access to Medicines Director Peter Maybarduk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> issued the following statement:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTrump has dressed up yet another corporate giveaway as a boon to patients. Most patients will do better through their insurance than through TrumpRx. Many patients without insurance will not be able to afford drugmakers\u2019 still-high prices funneled through TrumpRx.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBut drugmakers certainly will appreciate TrumpRx\u2019s free promotion of their products, delivered with a false veneer of price accountability. TrumpRx is designed to help Big Pharma keep its prices high by diluting the bargaining power of insurance companies, weakening an important check on pharma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTrumpRx also appears to be another example of this President\u2019s repeated corruption. Trump\u2019s son Donald Trump Jr. sits on the board of BlinkRx, a key business that may benefit financially from TrumpRx. Getting serious about medicine affordability means getting serious about challenging Big Pharma. For all Trump\u2019s talk, Big Pharma is getting a lot of special favors from this White House, while patients still are waiting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cReal drug price reform doesn\u2019t look like a website.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n ","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":["post-119122","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","tax_topic-safe-affordable-drugs-devices","tax_topic-u-s-drug-pricing","tax_news-press"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
