WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 Today, the <\/span>House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee<\/span><\/a> and the <\/span>House Ways and Means Committee<\/span><\/a> held hearings demanding answers from insurance executives on their abusive business practices, including high profits, high revenues and delays, denials and prior authorizations of care.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Public Citizen Health Care Policy Advocate<\/b> Eagan Kemp <\/b>issued the following statement:<\/span><\/p>\n

“In both of today\u2019s House hearings, health insurance executives\u2019 devil-may-care attitude towards Americans\u2019 health made the case for Medicare for All better than almost anyone I have ever seen. Rarely has there been a more feckless, uncaring and unsympathetic group of paper pushers. Under Medicare for All, these insurance vultures who profit from the suffering of everyday Americans would all be out of a job \u2013 bringing down costs across the health system \u2013 which should be reason enough to support it. We need Medicare for All to finally put us on par with every other comparably wealthy country by guaranteeing everyone in the U.S. can get the health care they need, throughout their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the short term, the Senate must pass a clean three-year extension of the enhanced ACA premium tax credits to address runaway premium increases for millions of Americans.
